A portrait is not just a likeness of a person. Done with care and thoughtfulness, a great portrait painting expresses the person's inner self. When a portrait is done correctly, using good composition, posing and lighting, there is almost a magical quality to it. It's no surprise that some of the greatest pieces of art ever created have been portraits. My goal is to create portraits that not only capture a persons likeness and personality but also are beautiful, captivating pieces of art, lasting for generations. I studied art at California Polytechnic State University in San Louis Obispo and graduated in 1986 with a degree in Applied Art and Design. I began working as an artist for the Orange County Regiser in California. In 1990 my wife and I moved to Oregon where I continue to work as an artist for The Oregonian. I illustrated "Cheese Louise," a childrens book, in 2000. I live in Lake Oswego with my wife Karen and our four children.
